Understandably, since the U.K went into its second national lockdown this year, many business owners will feel like they’re taking one step forward and two steps back. We want you to know – we are here for YOU.⠀
IT’S NOT ABOUT US – This month, we’re switching up our marketing; instead of showcasing what we do, we’ll be sharing useful tips, toolkits and information on how we can get through this period and come out stronger than ever – together. We’ll be focusing on mental health, positive thinking and actionable ways you can help grow your brand and engage your audience during lockdown.
5 Top Mental Health Organisations
Lockdown is likely to feel very different this time around, due to dark nights and bad weather; many people may be feeling burned-out and tired with the ongoing restrictions. However, there’s a whole range of fantastic organisations who offer amazing advice and services, to help you look after your mental health and find ways to tackle those inevitable difficult moments. Here are five of the best local and national organisations that we have found…
Samaritans
Samaritans are one of the UK’s largest mental health and suicide prevention services who offer 24/7 support 365 days a year. There are some excellent toolkits on their website, including a self-help app where you can ‘keep track of how you’re feeling and get recommendations for things you can do to help yourself cope, feel better and stay safe in a crisis’. You can also sign up to their newsletter for regular toolkits and advice delivered straight to your inbox.
Last year, over 20,000 people volunteered to be a Samaritan by being there for someone to talk to, whether that be on the phone, on text or on email. If this is something you would like to do, you can do so by clicking here.
Young Minds UK
Young Minds’ mission is to stop young people’s mental health reaching crisis point. They say that “every young person whose mental health ends up in crisis is a young person who has been failed. Young Minds know that the earlier young people can access the right help, the more likely it is that they can avoid these crises.”
Like Samaritans, Young Minds have a fantastic resources library full of useful toolkits, publications, reports and policy information about children and young people’s mental health. They too provide a newsletter that you can sign up to.
Mind UK & Dorset Mind
Mind UK are a nationwide mental health support charity who form a network of 130 local Minds in England and Wales and were set up in 1946. They provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem and tirelessly campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. They offer a whole range of resources from in-house workplace training to ‘5-step crisis plans’.
Dorset Mind represent Dorset and surrounding areas and offer fantastic local support groups and online support groups of which you can book in slots for, alongside a whole range of toolkits and local resources for all ages.
The Burnt Chef Project
The Burnt Chef Project is a non-profit campaign and clothing brand operating within hospitality to challenge mental health stigma through online training, open conversations and sales of branded custom merchandise.
8 out of 10 hospitality professionals report having experienced at least one mental health issue during their career and TBCP is committed to burning away the stigma associated with mental health for hospitality professionals worldwide.
There are plenty of ways to get involved with this project by donating, buying merchandise or becoming an ambassador. Find out more here.
Breaking Taboo
‘Mental Health is not a Privilege, it’s a Priority.’
Breaking Taboo is another national organisation, whose mission is to break the stigma of mental health and suicide. While they don’t offer the same services as many of the other organisations, their role is just as essential as they strive to educate people with a series of blogs, newsletters, surveys and even a documentary.
While these are some of the best services that we think are available, we’d love to know if you have any more. Contact us today and let us know if there are any others that you would recommend.
